Help with the homework in front of your child

When an assignment becomes difficult, it helps to be specific. Bring the directions, the work your child has tried and the part that needs another explanation.

What this program focuses on

Homework Help uses assignments given by your child’s teacher as the starting point for one-to-one tutoring. The conversation is about how to work through the task and the ideas behind it.

Before the session

Ask the team how to share the relevant assignment and materials. Explain what your child can already do and where they want help.

Keep school account passwords out of general inquiry forms. Agree an appropriate way to share materials with the team.

Look beyond a finished page

Use your conversation with the tutor to ask what was covered, which parts needed more explanation and what to revisit. A completed assignment alone does not show what a learner understands.

Is the need bigger than homework?

If a current assignment points to a broader question about coursework or foundational skills, discuss that too.

Start with your questions.

Discuss the support you are looking for before choosing a tutoring plan.
